So we we're able to catch up with Elias from Nonpoint in the dressing room during their stop at Jannus Landing, in Saint Pete, Florida, while on the "Most Wanted Tour." Here is what went down.

So what’s been going on Elias, how’ve you been? Been good, doing this tour. Just finished off two quick weeks with Drowning Pool, it was a, just a little bit of this North East kind of area, and then now we’re doing this run with The Exies, this is The Most Wanted tour. It’s a great couple of tours, first couple shows, first couple shows were awesome, very, very good, so it’s been a good tour so far. So last time we talked to you, you had just started the All American Rampage Tour, with label mates, Skindred, Ankla, and Karnivool. How was the last show with the four bands, before Skindred and Karnivool went back overseas. Was there any memorable moments from the last show or? Uh, no, well we just, a lot of tears, a lot of hugs and goodbyes and shit like that. But no, nothing major, we didn’t, we want those guys to have a good show, so nothing to crazy, just messing with there intros and stuff like that, but nothing to crazy. No farewell presents or anything No, no, nothing to vulgar or to riskay, we just decided to keep it friendly |
Now that’s the tour you broke your ankle on right?
Yea, pretty much, yea, it was not a good thing
How did it happen exactly?
Just, jumped around, and you know, jumped off the box, and just twisted it.
Twisted it under and your wearing braces still now?
Yea, yea, gotta keep them both braced up, so it don’t happen again.

After “All American Rampage” you continued to tour with bands such as Hell Yeah, Machine Head, how did all that get set up, and was there anything special about that tour, that it happened so quickly? The Hell Yeah guys, we’ve been friends with you know Greg, and Chad, and all the guys in Mudvane for years and years and years. So when they came out with this we got a phone call from Chad saying that he kinda wanted to get it going, and he made the phone to there tour manager, I mean there booking agent, and their booking agent called our booking agent, and they had lunch, and blah blah mother fucking blah. But you know we’ve be friends, and they made that phone call, so we got to do that. So now you’re headlining “The Most Wanted Tour”, with The Exies, you guys just started up right? Yea, this is only the second show. Oh it’s only the second show? Yea, third show actually. |
|
Where else you guys plan heading out to?
We plan on doing, we’re going back down towards Florida, great routing, then all the way back out west again, so we’re going to be hitting a bunch of stuff all the way out. Colorado and Vegas, all of that stuff. But then hitting California with these boys, hopefully, word is that they draw pretty well out there to, so it should be a really, really good tour man.

So Ozzfest just got announced this week that it’s only going to be a one day tour, in Dallas, Texas. Being a band that was on Ozzfest once before, do you think this is a benefit to the scene, do you think that it’s outrageous, what’s your take on it? It’s been years since we’ve been on Ozzfest. What’s my take on it; I guess their trying to do something new. Something a little bit different I guess, turning a festival into one show, and probably making it. Who’s headlining it? They got Ozzy on there, Sevendust, Hell Yeah’s playing, and doing a Dimebag Darrel tribute, there’s some good bands out there but sorta surprising There’s not a bigger band? I think the biggest is Metallica Well Jesus Christ, you kind of left that out brother. Well yea, I guess that’s a pretty good move I guess. I guess the boys in Metallica wanted to do one show and that's it. |
It just seemed interesting from other years, when you know they’re hitting the whole U.S. and other countries.
Well I guess with gas prices, they don’t want to do the traveling, I don’t know. It’s expensive to tour man. People don’t realize that it’s like, that affects tickets, and it affects everything. Gas is ridicoulsy expensive. It’s $700 to fill up the bus, once. It’s like if people don’t buy records, or don’t come out to tickets, your favorite bands aren’t going to last, your never going to see them. You say why don’t you ever come to my town, its cause ***** you gotta buy a ticket, stop going to YouTube, this is stuff you can’t download. You know, and its stuff that people are missing, and missing out on because of stupid shit like gas prices.
|
That actually leads to my next question. Last time we talked, you were talking about outrageous cell phone bills and how they’ve just gone out the roof, how has the gas taken into Nonpoint touring? It’s taken into everything. It’s taken into promoters, it’s taken into you know, everything, its gone into everything. If everybody notices how the cents are inching up in there grocery store, its cause it’s costing more money to get that food into that store. You know, cause gas has pretty much doubled. You know gas has gone up 20 cents in South Florida in the last month, 20 cents. Yea, we’re paying like $3.70 up here 20 cents, its $3.90, $3.90 I’m happy I’m up here still then. You know, so people have to realize it’s like, if you want to see it, you have to spend the money. |
|
So your first single “Vengeance” off the “March of War” hit number 28 on the Billboard U.S. Mainstream Rock charts, you guys got any plans for new singles, Bieler Bros getting ready to release another one?
Uh, there’s been talks about “Breathe”, and there saying mid June. But, you know, you try not to involve your self with that politic shit you know.
Stay to the music?
I don’t want to hear about that, let them figure that shit out
Definitely
It’s what we pay them for

So the presidential election is coming up very soon, have you picked a candidate that you most support, that you would like to see in there, and why? Man, I’m swinging, I keep swinging, one to the other. Um, I’m huh, I said this before, and I don’t mean to repeat myself. I’m just, I’m excited to see, the change, to happen in America, and you know, there’s talks, you know, there was talks before, and I’m sure there’s been millions of talks before then, about healthcare on Obama’s side, and Hillary saying a lot of smart things. And you know, I’m definitely, I definitely lean towards the Democratic vote. But I am definitely all ears for anyone who’s willing to, you know, really comes to the table with something. |
Step up to the plate?
With something, just very common sensual, you know something that makes nothing but very basic common sense. And it’s we’re going to do this about the budget, we’re going to do this about our troops, we’re gonna do this about healthcare, we’re gonna do this about education. And, as soon as they step into the office, you know, write bills, and start getting them passed, and move forward. Not say this will be accomplished by year 2, and then by year 4 we should hope to accomplish by the second thing I said. Nah, we should be moving on all these things you said since day one, you’re the president. As soon as you step your foot in the door, things should be going. And we need that kind of aggressive, uh, you know, focused president, and anyone’s that willing to show me that is willing to get my vote. And I think is going to get everyone’s vote if they do that, cause that’s what we’re all waiting on. And as a nation we should be, we should feel empowered that as soon as they don’t deliver, we should toss their ass out, and get somebody else in that is going to end this. If they don’t work out, toss their ass out and keep moving. It’s like, that’s why we’re a Democracy, so that way we can do that, we have the right to do that. And people need to stop watching movies like Fahrenheit 9/11 and Sicko, and being so upset, and not doing anything about it. They just sit back and go, ‘Oh man, that movie pissed me off, I can’t believe nothing is being done.’ The reason nothing is getting done, is because numbers need to do stuff, and people have to get behind everything that they believe in. Music, presidents, education, healthcare, what ever it is man. People need to be, more then just vocal, people need to start signing shit and do stuff.

So I’m stealing this next question from one of my other writers here, he believes, in his opinion, everyone in the world has 5 vices, 5 things that they cling to as an addict, 5 things that define them as a person. What are you 5 vices, what defines you as Elias? Music, food, family, learning, and…and weed! That’s about it, good pot. I like the 5 choices as well. Alright, so we thank you for everything, and taking the time to sit down with us, is there anything you want to say to out to the Nonpoint nation, you know, the fans? If you like, all we ask, and what we always ask, is you tell one other person, just tell one more person, that they missed a great show, or they don’t own a good album, and to pass the word. |
