Interview w/ Jason Bieler, Owner of Bieler Bros Records

With such a hectic schedule, and making deals everywhere, we were recently able to secure an interview with owner of Bieler Brothers Records, Jason Bieler. Here is how it went down, and if your a band looking to get signed, listen to his advice.

What do you think about the resent availability to download MP3's and other forms of media without paying for it, specifically through the new service, Qtrax?

The internet is amazing, and the availability of music to everyone has never been greater. The business is changing and that’s a good thing. We are focused on the future and we embrace any technology that helps music get into more peoples hands. If you have great bands that put on great performances, the money will follow.

Where do you think the current social climate of music is taking us and do you agree with it?

Not sure if there is a social climate…I don’t think many artists are making socially relevant music right now. Most artists are happy to create disposable pop tunes, but times change.

What first inspired you to get involved in the music industry, and start up Bieler Bros?

I just love music, musicians, shows and anything to do with it. I feel amazingly fortunate that I am involved with something I love.

What are some of the things you look for before signing a potential band to a contract?

Talent, songs, drive and work ethic.

Based out of South Florida, how do you feel the music scene has changed in Florida 10 years ago compared to the present?

This scene has produced some pretty amazing artists over the years; when the bands suck the scene sucks, when the bands are great the scene is great.

With so many bands getting on the radio for 1 or 2 songs and then disappearing, do you think today's musicians can stand up to the "rock star" life style?

We just don't think about it. All we focus on is our artists and how to do more today then we did yesterday. We have a long-term approach to things.

If you could start over would you be where you are today?

I wouldn't change much except, I would have liked to play hockey a bit earlier in life!

There are so many bands that we all wish we could see live one more time, do you have a favorite retired band you would love to see?

I have seen most the bands I wanted to see. So, other than the Beatles, I don't think I have missed much.

Last question, do you have any words of wisdom for aspiring musicians?

WORK WORK WORK, believe in yourself, and don’t take NO for an answer. You need talent and a relentless work ethic to make it, one without the other is useless.
