Audible Mainframe!!!

Hey Audible Mainframe! Thanks for taking some time to answer a few questions for us here at Get In.

You guys originated in Boston. Tell us a little about how the group formed. Where did the name Audible Mainframe come from?

We we're all attending different universities in Boston right around the Turn of the Century. We met through mutual friends and started making music together. John was studying music industry at Northeastern University and had access to the studios there, so we had a place to play. Then we started getting gigs around Boston and it grew from there.

As for the name, we were on our way to our first gig and didn't have a name...so we started throwing around ideas in the car. DJ Mutt yelled "Audible Mainframe!" out of nowhere, and we all didn't hate. He said that he got the name from looking at one side of the street and "Audible" written on a sign in a storefront, and then looked to the other side of the street and saw a "Mainframe" sign...and Audible Mainframe was born.

Describe the Boston music scene and how do you fit into it? How does the LA music scene compare in your mind? Have you been finding success as a band in LA?

The Boston music scene is more communal. It's the kind of scene where everyone seems to know everyone. It's like a big dysfunctional family.  LA itself doesn't really seem to have the same kind of community of artists. It's more of a place where people come from all around to pursue their own careers. There's definitely more opportunity here, but it feels like you're fishing in a bigger pond. That's the only difference.  We told ourselves that we'd give it a year out here, and then assess our progress. It's been less than a year, and we've achieved more than we expected to in this time. We're going to continue working hard and trying to get our foot in the door of this new scene.

You now have a place on the West coast. How long have you lived together as a band in Long Beach, CA? Was there a final straw the boosted the decision to go west or was it a long drawn out decision? How does west coast life compare to the northeast?

We've lived here since November of '06. We were all at a point in our lives, personally, that we were ready to make a change. And the idea of moving to Southern California had been bandied about. The straw that broke the camel's back was when we came out here to play a couple of shows last summer. When we came back to Boston, we decided that it was a move that we were ready to make. The west coast is definitely worlds apart from back home. It's interesting that even though we all live in the same country, it's possible to have cultures that are so completely different. The weather is nice, can't complain about 70 and sunny everyday. And the people out here are really nice and laid back, but most of them can't drive for shit.

What is the best part of making music? The live shows? Recording? Writing?

Writing and recording can be very exciting and fulfilling, but nothing compares to the energy of performing your music live, and seeing people's reaction to it.  There's nothing else like it on earth.

Does the band have any superstitions that must be performed before they play a gig?

Not really, but we're fond of Vitamin Water and Whiskey. Make of that what you will.

Anything else to relay to fans?

We're going to continue on working on new music, and perfecting our live show. Be on the lookout for a new record sometime soon. To all of our fans who live in places we haven't been to yet: don't worry, we'll try to get to your area soon, so stay in touch!

Our old website was stolen by cybersquatters, so we're working on getting a new site up, and will be trying to build up our online community.

PS. Don't vote, it's just a mirage

Thanks for taking the time with us, we wish you the best in the future.
