This Machine Doesn’t Need To Be Fixed !!!

After seeing an eye catching performance of a local death metal band, I had the opportunity to speak to a couple of the members. I had asked about possibly getting a demo and doing a review. Without hesitation their guitarist, Jeff, happily agreed.

A Broken Machine is an upcoming metal band from St. Petersburg FL. After having the privilege of listening to their three song demo I have more than enough hope for this band.
Having their catchy melodies, and ear crushing leads stuck in my head for the past week, I can say nothing but good things about this band. Very reminiscent of bands such as Through The Eyes of The Dead and The Red Chord. Though you can hear some of their influences in their music, they still stand out as a unique original group. The vocals them self set them apart from the rest of the generic metal crowd, having an original sound to the barreling growls and high end screams.

With every metal band you must have two guitarists to be able to pull off melodies and to create an amazing sound experience, and this band is no exception. Their performance on stage, as well as the vocalist, is very energetic and the crowd took to it.

Their playing isn’t just for show. They have an amazing talent and use it well as anyone, even a novice, can tell after listening to their studio recording. Their rhythm stays with you even when the song is over, to the point you’d have to gouge out your brain with a melon scoop just to get them to stop playing over and over. The leads have a very interesting sound to them and have some parts that are very ear catching and will have you wanting to listen to them again and again.

Their rhythm section, containing bass and drums, also has a stellar performance on stage as well as recording. Unlike most bassists, theirs sets away from following the guitar the whole time and plays his own part. The drums off them demo have flawless timing and syncs up with the music very well.

A Broken Machine gets my overall rating of 9 out of 10. They have an upcoming show on August 31st at The Uptown Bar in downtown St. Petersburg. Any who can attend will definitely enjoy the show. If you have the opportunity to see this band perform pick up a copy of the demo, you won’t regret it!
